The First Four

Meet the inspirations for Four Dogs Senior Animal Rescue

Zoe.jpg

Zoe

Rottweiler

Zoe came to me by default during a very difficult time in my life. She possessed all of the traits of a Rottweiler, an inquisitive nature, loyalty and protectiveness for her family. She taught me how to love animals, and how much one could gain and learn just from caring for them on a daily basis. She was an amazing teacher and companion for 17.5 years! During that time she learned hand commands, beat cancer on 3 separate occasions, and was always there when I needed her.  She will always be remembered as the matriarch of our family.

Oliver

Jack Russell

Oliver was my very first rescue dog and the love of my life (sorry Jay!).  His original name was Frazier but I quickly changed it to Oliver after one of my favorite movies about an orphan, Oliver! He lived to be over 17 yrs old and was with me during most of my adult life. He was my rock. I almost did not adopt him because everyone said "You don't want a Jack Russell, they're crazy!?"  And yes, that was partly true, they are crazy. But he was also the most loving, understanding, compassionate dog I had ever met & could not have asked for a better match. During our time together Oliver taught me what responsibility, patience, and unconditional love really was. Several people have recounted the times they were feeling sad or down about something, and he would go over to them and just sit or lay next to them until they were ok, he just knew. He always made sure everyone was together on their pack walks, and no one was left behind. He is the only one of the First Four that made it to the Farm where Four Dogs started, and I am pretty sure he approved!

Trixie

Jack Russell/Chihuahua

Trixie was rescued from N. Carolina. When I went to meet Trixie I was told "we have others ready to go home with you in case you don't want Trixie. 3 people already returned her". Right then I knew she was the one. Well they weren't kidding when they said she was a handful. But after several years of not giving up on her, Trixie finally realized she was home and we created an unbreakable bond. Trixie was smart, feisty, determined, & made everyone laugh.  Anyone that spent any amount of time with her quickly fell for her adorable personality and the way she would say "I'm sorry" by nuzzling her head into you when she did something naughty. I had never met a dog like her and doubt I ever will. Trixie lived her life to the fullest right up to her last days at age 16.  She is missed terribly and thought of everyday.

Tonka

Rottweiler

After having a dog like Zoe, I always said the only dog I would foster was a Rottweiler.  That came true only a month after making that statement. I rescued 2 four week old Rottweilers from a homelessness situation. I anticipated to adopt both dogs out, but what happened was I grew so connected to Tonka that I adopted him. Tonka was a dog like no other and we shared a special bond. Tonka & I were true soulmates. The best way to describe Tonka is that of a Rockstar! Wherever he went people were attracted to him. He had a gentle personality and calm nature which made him easy to love. People often took pictures of him when walking through the streets of Boston. It made me so proud to be his Dad. Later after he passed, people would share stories & pictures with me. Although he was taken from us far too soon at the age of 6.5 yrs, he taught me how to care for a hospice animal. Words can not describe the pure joy and love he brought us. He is sorely missed to this day.
